Feedback from the exhibition of the amended EIS included concerns about health risks, air quality, location of the facility and the suitability of the site. The applicant has now prepared a Response to Submissions report to address the concerns raised and to support a further amended development application for the construction and operation of a facility approximately half the scale of that originally proposed. The Applicant now seeks approval for Stage 1 of the facility only with a capacity to thermally treat up to 552,500 tonnes of residual waste per annum.

A Response to Submissions on the Amended EIS - Eastern Creek Energy from Waste Proposal

Planning legislation allows an applicant to amend a development application at any time before a decision is made. This provides an opportunity to reduce environmental impacts and address community concerns. The next step in the process is for the Department to consult with the relevant government authorities, its Independent Experts and to consider the proposal on its merits. The Department will then finalise its assessment, taking into consideration the issues raised by government authorities, the community and advice from its Independent Experts. The Department will then refer the application to the independent Planning Assessment Commission to make a final decision.
