Other Guidance on LEPs

Planning Reform Fund

The NSW Government, through the Planning Reform Fund provides grants to help local councils with the preparation of standard instrument LEPs.

Other Useful Advice on LEPs

Other useful advice for councils preparing and submitting standard instrument LEPs:

  • Land use matrix A 'matrix' of defined land use terms and standard zones is available to assist councils preparing LEPs. Councils are strongly encouraged to complete the matrix of intended permitted and prohibited land uses to assist in discussions with the Department about the draft plan.
  • Infrastructure land use matrix A ‘matrix’ of infrastructure land uses and standard zones is available to assist councils identifying the ‘prescribed zones’ (under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Infrastructure) 2007) where certain types of infrastructure are permitted under that SEPP. The matrix consists of two sections (Page 1-3: for development carried out by or on behalf of a public authority; Page 4-6: for development carried out by anyone else). In using this matrix, users are encouraged to always refer to the relevant provisions in the SEPP. In addition, LEP Practice Note PN 08-002 Zoning for infrastructure in LEPs provides guidance to councils on zoning public infrastructure land in LEPs.
