The number of homes completed across NSW continues to remain strong and a record number of homes are under construction, according to new figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Brendan Nelson, Acting Secretary of the Department of Planning and Environment, said the ABS quarterly building activity data shows 63,429 new homes were completed in NSW in the year to September 2017.
“As of September 2017, there were 87,048 homes under construction in NSW. This is a record high,” Mr Nelson said.
“Each home built means one more family is getting the housing they want and need.
“The number of new homes completed in the year to September 2017 was 30 per cent higher than the latest five-year average.
“By delivering these historic high levels of housing completions, it demonstrates that the government’s efforts to streamline and simplify the planning system are proving to be effective in delivering more homes to the market,” Mr Nelson said.
The figures released today show new benchmarks are being reached when it comes to getting houses built across NSW, with the data indicating that housing completions in the 12 months to September 2017 were more than double the number completed in the same period 5 years ago.
