The Interim Wilton Land Use and Infrastructure Implementation Plan identifies areas that are suitable for urban development. The Growth Area has the potential to accommodate around 15,000 homes for about 50,000 people over the next 20 to 30 years. A variety of housing types and a mixture of densities will provide choice for people of different ages and incomes. Most of these dwellings will be detached homes on medium sized lots (400-700m2) while homes on smaller blocks of land and semi-detached homes, townhouses and low-rise apartments will make up approximately 20 per cent of homes when the Growth Area is fully developed.
Homes have already been built in the area. The Bingara Gorge precinct has already been rezoned for up to 1,800 homes, with approximately 500 homes delivered so far.
The Growth Area also includes employment land. We are targeting the creation of 15,000 new jobs in partnership with Council and landowners.
Employment will be focused on the Town and Village centres as well as the Maldon industrial precinct in the north of the Priority Growth Area. Jobs will be created across retail, food services, education, trades, service industries and general light industrial jobs.
We are working with Wollondilly Shire Council to develop an economic development strategy that will include actions to attract jobs to the area.
