In September 2010, the Planning Minister wrote to councils inviting them to apply for funding under the Government’s $10 million Local Environmental Plan (LEP) Acceleration Fund, which will assist in the accelerated delivery of new council-wide LEPs in line with the Government’s standard LEP template.
The LEP Acceleration Fund, to be delivered over two years, forms part of the NSW Government’s Comprehensive Housing Supply Strategy announced in the 2010-11 State Budget.
Successful councils
In February 2011, the Planning Minister approved more than $9.1 million in funding across 84 councils, including the priority regions of Sydney Metropolitan, Lower Hunter and Illawarra, under the LEP Acceleration Fund.
To date, 79 councils have signed agreements for funding under the LEP Acceleration Fund.
The grants will fund additional planning staff, assist with consultation, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping services and the preparation of strategic land use studies that will inform the implementation of new LEPs.
