Liverpool to Parramatta Rapid Bus Transitway
Approved: 14 December 2001
Description:The transitway is a major $200 million transport infrastructure project funded by the NSW Government and jointly undertaken by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) and the Department of Transport (DoT). It will provide 21 kilometres of a two lane bus only roadway of which 21 kilometres will be on new roadway. Thirty-five transitway stations along the route will service communities. Combined or separate cycleways are provided over the majority of the route outside the CBD areas.

CBD Electricity Cable

Description:Sydney CBD & Inner Suburbs 132 kV Cable Project. Involves the construction and operation of 132 kV electricity cables, from the Haymarket to Surry Hills. The cables will be located in a tunnel, to be built as part of the project. The proponent is EnergyAustralia.

Great Western Highway Upgrade at Little Hartley
Approved: 14 December 2001
Description:The Roads and Traffic Authority propose to upgrade the Great Western Highway between Victoria Pass and Mid Hartley Road, 16 km east of Lithgow. The proposal forms part of the Great Western Highway Upgrade Program and has been developed to improve travel efficiency. The Department's assessment of the proposal has concluded that following the existing highway alignment would be superior in terms of economic, social and environmental impacts to the RTA's preferred option which included a deviation at Little Hartley. The RTA supports this recommendation and will be required to upgrade the highway along the existing alignment as a Condition of the Minister's Approval.

Beltana No.1 Underground Coal Mine
Approved: 18 December 2001
Description:Bulga Coal Pty Limited has been granted approval to mine up to 6 million tonnes of coal per annum with a mine life of between 6 to 10 years. The proposal involves the extraction of a coal through a sequence of 8 long-wall panels, which are to be located to the west of the current Bulga open cut mining operation. An existing road will provide access to the associated surface facilities. Access facilities to the underground workings for personnel and materials will be established in the existing Whybrow Pit.

Dendrobium Underground Coal Mine Project
Approved: 20 November 2001
Description:Consent has been granted to Stage 1 for the mine to undertake underground coal mining, and construction and operation of associated surface facilities. The mine will extract some 5.2 million tonnes of No.3 Seam coal over a 21 year period to supply the local Port Kembla Steelworks and overseas markets.

Penrith STP Amplification and Glenbrook Waste Water Transfer
Approved: 12 November 2001
Description:Amplification of Penrith STP to 31 ML/day to cater for growth in the Penrith sewage catchment and to allow for the decommissioning of the Glenbrook STP. Sewage from the Glenbrook catchment would be transferred to Penrith STP via the construction of a new pipeline.

Sodium Chlorate Plant, Sterling Pulp Chemicals Ltd

Description:A proposal by Sterling Pulp Chemicals Ltd to construct and operate a sodium chlorate plant, near the Bayswater Power. The plant will produce up to 60,000 tonnes per annum of sodium chlorate from water and salt, through an electrolytic process.

Shell Cove Boatharbour/Marina development

Description: Consent has been granted to modify the development consent held by Shellharbour City Council for the Shell Cove Boatharbour/Marina development. The modification of the consent allows the proposed earthen bunds along the Bass Point quarry haul road to be substituted with concrete acoustic barriers.

Highway Link Between the F3 and Branxton

Description: A proposal by the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority to construct a new four lane dual carriageway highway to extend in a north-westerly direction for approximately 39.5 kilometres from the F3 Freeway near Seahampton to the New England Highway west of Branxton.

Slimes Leaching Plant Modification, Military Rd, Port Kembla
Approved: 2 November 2001
Description:A proposal by Port Kembla Copper to modify the existing consent for a copper smelter and refinery on Military Road, Port Kembla, in accordance with section 96(2) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The modification involves the construction and operation of a slimes leaching plant for the recovery of copper from slimes generated as a byproduct of the electrowinning process.

Intermittent Tail Gas Scrubber Modification, Military Rd, Port Kembla
Approved: 2 November 2001
Description:A proposal by Port Kembla Copper to modify the existing consent for a copper smelter and refinery on Military Road, Port Kembla, in accordance with section 96(1A) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The modification involves the construction and operation of an intermittent tail gas scrubber to address exceedences of ambient sulfur dioxide limits during certain meteorological conditions.

Water Police Facility, Camerons Cove, Balmain
Approved: 8 October 2001
Description:A two-storey administration building; a hardstand area for boat storage and vehicle turning; storage sheds; an eleven berth marina for police vessels; foreshore open space; remediation; and subdivision to allow dedication of open space to Leichhardt Council. The facility would operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Cross City Tunnel, Kings Cross to Darling Harbour
Approved: 3 October 2001
Description:The RTA's proposed Cross City Tunnel (CCT) is a major $400M road infrastructure project recognised in the Government's Action for Transport 2010 to be of significance to the economy, environment and planning of Sydney and New South Wales. Key features of the proposal include a 2-kilometre tunnel generally running east/west below William/Park and Druitt Streets, connecting the Kings Cross tunnel with the Western Distributor. New connections are also proposed at the Eastern Distributor and at Sir John Young Crescent. A new, 39-metre high tunnel emissions ventilation stack is proposed in Darling Harbour located near to the IMAX theatre. Traffic would be tolled electronically in each direction - $2.50 for the main tunnel and $1.10 for traffic exiting to Sir John Young Crescent.

Food Processing Plant, Goodman Fielder Ltd, Kingsgrove

Description:A proposal to upgrade and expand the food processing facilities at the existing Kingsgrove site. The proposal involves the expansion of the existing building to allow for the installation of an additional 24 silos and a product mixing tower, and the construction of a new car parking area.

Coalcliff, Stanwell Park, Stanwell Tops and Otford Sewerage

Description:Construction by Sydney Water of a reticulated sewerage scheme for Coalcliff, Stanwell Park, Stanwell Tops and Otford (also known collectively as the Northern Towers) in the Wollongong City Council area. The scheme includes sewage collection and transfer via a series of pumping stations, pipelines and raising mains to Helensburgh, thence to the Cronulla Sewerage Treatment Plant for sewage treatment.

Warkworth/ Mt Thorley Modification

Description:Coal & Allied Operations Pty Limited (Coal & Allied) have been granted consent to modify Conditions of Consent to allow for the construction and use of a private haul road to transport coal between the existing Warkworth Mine and Mount Thorley Operations (MTO). This will enable traffic from Warkworth Mine to continue either south to the MTO Coal Preparation Plant (CPP) or veer east to the Mount Thorley Coal Loader (MTCL).

Birkenhead Point Marina, Roseby Street, Drummoyne

Aluminium Dross Recycling Facility, Kurri Kurri

Dartbrook Underground Coal Mine

The extension includes an increase in the coal production rate, extension of the longwall mining area, expansion of the existing rejects emplacement area, construction of additional surface facilities and transport of coal via road for an initial period of up to 18 months.

Commercial Snapper Farm, Pisces Marine Aquaculture, Providence Bay
Approved: 6 August 2001
Description:The Minister for Planning has approved the first commercial off-shore fish farm in NSW. The proposal involves establishing a 30 hectare snapper farm on Providence Bay at the entrance to Port Stephens, about 3km east of Hawk's Nest, with associated land-based facilities in the industrial area at Oyster Cove. The snapper farm is expected to generate 30 jobs, and produce about 500 tonnes - or about $ 5 million worth - of snapper a year.

Tomago Aluminium Smelter, Port Stephens

Description:The approval allows Tomago to increase the capacity of the smelter from 440,000 to 530,000 tonnes a year by 2007. The proposed upgrade is expected to cost $200 million.

Description: A change to the Northside Storage Tunnel project to allow Sydney Water Corporation to create a Shelly Beach connection to the tunnel, in the Manly local government area.

South Bulga Colliery mine extension
Decision: Approved 19 March 2001
Description: A proposal to extend the existing South Bulga Colliery underground coal mine to the south-east of the existing coal mining leases. This will allow the recovery of up to an additional 2.8 million tonners of coal from the Lower Whybrow Seam, and provide continuing employment for 182 people. The South Bulga underground mine is approximately 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the Upper Hunter Valley and is wholly within Singleton Shire.

Waste Management Centre extension
Decision: Approved 21 March 2001
Description: Two proposals by the Waste Service NSW to extend the landfill capacity of the Eastern Creek Waste Management Centre in the Blacktown local government area.

Description: A proposed modification to Nardell coal mine operations in relation to coal washery rejects emplacements, water management systems and other minor amendments. The mine is in the Singleton local government area.

Western Sydney rail freight facility
Decision: Approved 19 December 2000
Description: A proposal by the State Rail Authority to construct and operate an intermodal rail freight facility. The proposal includes a rail container terminal, a rail based grain receival, a storage and processing facility, and a sand/sandstone recycling facility at St Marys in the Penrith local government area.

Gerringong Gerroa sewerage scheme
Decision: Approved 22 January 2001
Description: A proposal by Sydney Water to develop a new sewerage scheme for the towns of Gerringong and Geroa. This will involve the construction of a new reticulation system, including 11 sewage pumping stations and a new sewage treatment plant. The scheme is being built to accommodate an average dry weather flow of 2.2ML/day. An advanced tertiary level of treatment will be provided and the scheme targets a reuse level, on nearby farms, of at least 80% of treated wastewater.

Amendment to shipping controls at Port Botany
