Major Project Register
The Department of Planning assesses and determines proposed major projects under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. The Act says that a public register must be kept of major projects.
The register contains some major projects which are at various stages of assessment, including projects which have yet to be formally placed on public exhibition.
For instance, some projects in the register are at the stage where only a project application and preliminary assessment have been lodged. This allows the community to be aware of a proposal at an early stage.
After receiving these preliminary documents, the Department of Planning then advises the applicant what issues need to be addressed in its environmental assessment in documents called Director-General's requirements. The proponent then has to prepare the environmental assessment to address these requirements.
Once this environmental assessment is lodged with and accepted by the department, it is advertised and placed on public exhibition for a minimum of 30 days. Submissions are invited during this time.
Environmental assessments which have been formally placed on public exhibition and for which submissions are invited are available at the On Exhibition page.
