Register of major projects by region
The Department of Planning assesses major projects that need the approval of the Minister for Planning. The following is a register of projects being processed under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. Once a project is determined, it is removed from the register and added to the notices of determination for major projects.

- Description: Proposal to construct and operate a rail coal unloader for the Mount Piper Power Station near Wallerawang. The coal unloader would allow the power station to access coal from distant mines, with transportation of the coal occurring by rail to the proposed site and then by conveyor to the power station. - Proposal title: Gas-Fired Power Station, Parkes - NP Power (MP 06_0266)
- Description:
NP Power proposes to construct and operate a 80 megawatt gas-fired power station at Parkes. The power station would provide base load electricity to the local region. The project is expected to be implemented in two stages. The project consists of two stages:
- Stage 1 - Installation and operation of seven sets of 8.4 MW gas fired reciprocating generator sets; and
- Stage 2 - Installation and operation of an additional two to three sets subject to future demand. Additional infrastructure to be constructed as part of the project would include:
- gas pipeline to connect to existing gas supplies; and
- electricity transmission lines to connect to the grid

- Proposal title: 06_0260 Former Bathurst Gasworks Site - Stage 1 Remediation Project, Russell Street Bathurst, Bathurst Regional Local Government Area
- Description: The former Bathurst Gasworks Site was declared a Remediation Site by the then NSW Environment Protection Authority under section 21 of the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997 in August 2004. Bathurst Regional Council proposes to remediate the site progressively with Stage 1 focusing on a project area of approximately 900 m2. The project area includes the tar well, tar separators, tar storage facilities and previously stockpiles contaminated soil. The Stage 1 remediation will include the following components:
- Site preparation (removal of existing fencing and installation of security fence and barrier)
- Removal of liquids and sludges from infrastructure.
- Demolition of infrastructure and excavation of contaminated material.
- Removal of contaminated soil currently stored within and in the vicinity of the purifier shed.
- Excavation validation sampling.
- Disposal of excavated material (including characterisation, separation, treatment and appropriate disposal).
- Disposal and/or treatment of contaminated water.
- Reinstatement of excavations to a uniform ground level with clean validated fill where required.
