Geotechnical policy for the NSW alpine resorts

In September 2002 the development consent role for Kosciuszko alpine resorts was transferred to the Planning Minister. One of the Department's main aims in assessing any development in the resort and support areas is to ensure that all proposed development is undertaken in accordance with geotechnical and structural engineering best practice.

In consultation with key stakeholders and the public, the Department developed and subsequently adopted the Geotechnical Policy - Kosciuszko Alpine Resorts PDF file on 25 September 2003. Many development applications submitted will require a geotechnical report prepared in accordance with the Geotechnical Policy.

The key objectives of the policy are that:

  • geotechnical and related structural matters are investigated and documented by suitably qualified professionals with appropriate expertise in these fields;
  • geotechnical and structural matters are assessed by the Department throughout the development applications process; and
  • development is carried out in accordance with related geotechnical and structural investigation results.
