NSW GOVT TO REVIEW FAME COVE

Planning Minister Frank Sartor today announced the NSW Government would consider current and future development applications for Fame Cove on the Port Stephens waterway.

Mr Sartor said members of the community, as well as the Department of Environment and Climate Change, had contacted him and his department expressing concern about potential development at the site.

Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann also sought the Minister’s intervention, calling on him to review local development applications.

“It is appropriate that any development at Fame Cove be considered by the Government given the high level of biodiversity on the site, its bush fire risks and the fact that it drains into Port Stephens,” Mr Sartor said.

“The site also adjoins existing conservation reserves and has important Aboriginal heritage values.

“Concerns have also been raised with me about the potential impact of recent agricultural activity and extensive land clearing in the Fame Cove area.”

Mr Sartor said current development applications lodged with Great Lakes Shire Council and any future development at the site would be assessed by the NSW Government.
