EXTENSION OF PUBLIC EXHIBITION PERIOD FOR WOLLONGONG LOCAL ENVIRONMENT PLAN

Planning Minister, Kristina Keneally, today announced an extension to the public exhibition period for the Wollongong Local Environment Plan (LEP).

Once finalised, the LEP will be a key planning document which guides future uses of land and types of development throughout the Wollongong local government area.

Ms Keneally said the LEP, which was due to come off exhibition today, would now remain out for public consultation until Friday 17 April.

“While I was in Wollongong for the recent regional cabinet meeting, a number of people told me they needed more time to put in a submission about the Local Environment Plan,” Ms Keneally said.

“The NSW Government holds community cabinet meetings to get exactly this type of feedback from local communities.

“In response to the representations from the public, I’ve asked that Wollongong’s local community and businesses get an extra two and a half weeks to provide submissions.

“Instead of going off public exhibition today, people now have until Friday 17 April to make a submission.”

Minister for the Illawarra, David Campbell, said today’s announcement was good news for the region.

“This is an important document which will help shape the future of Wollongong,” Mr Campbell said.

“I encourage the local community to take advantage of the extra time that it is on public exhibition, and provide a submission with their views.”
