$5 MILLION COMMUNITY CENTRE UNVEILED AND OVER $50 MILLION OF COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE HANDED BACK TO LOCAL COUNCIL

NSW Planning Minister, Kristina Keneally, today opened the brand new $5 million purpose built Prince Henry Community Centre and handed back over $50 million of community infrastructure to Randwick Council.

Ms Keneally said the Prince Henry urban renewal project was a benchmark example of the Government delivering community based amenity through master planned communities.

“This $800 million spectacular urban renewal project was founded on the principle of investing in the local community and creating a vibrant coastal village.

“Since 2001 Landcom have worked hard to provide facilities for Little Bay and the wider Randwick community and today we celebrate that success.”

Ms Keneally was joined by Local Member for Maroubra, Michael Daley, to help open the facility and official hand back the site and its facilities to Randwick City Council.

Mr Daley said community life at Little Bay now had a new beachfront home as a part of the Prince Henry coastal community.

“The new 1,550sq meter Prince Henry Community Centre is a high quality community facility that is environmentally sustainable and provides a wonderful multi-use space for locals,” Mr Daley said.

“The community centre will host a wide range of activities from sports and recreation, recitals and performances, exhibitions and courses, to community arts festivals.

“Handing over this new facility, as well as the beach and over $50 million of other community infrastructure, is a real boost for our local area.”

Ms Keneally and Mr Daley officially handed over the Little Bay site, to Randwick City Council Mayor, Bruce Notley-Smith, who accepted the facilities on behalf of his constituents.

The Prince Henry at Little Bay project has now earned 16 major industry awards, including the President’s Award for Best Australian Project at this year’s Urban Development Institute of Australia’s (UDIA) National Awards for Excellence.
