Media Release - Department of Planning Sydney: 22 January 2009 LETTER TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUNGOG CHRONICLE Public input will not be restricted as a result of the declaration of Tillegra Dam as ‘critical infrastructure’ (‘Anti-Tillegra Dam crusade outfoxed’, Dungog Chronicle, 21/01/2009). The assessment process for critical infrastructure projects, including community consultation, is the same as for any other major project. The process includes the following consultative steps: • The Department’s requirements for the developer’s environmental assessment report are prepared in consultation with relevant agencies and stakeholders before being issued to the proponent; • This environmental assessment must be publicly exhibited for at least 30 days, during which time the public has the opportunity to voice feedback on any part of the proposal; • The Department requires that the proponent respond to all issues raised in submissions, and this response is made publicly available on the Department’s website; and • The Director-General considers all public submissions and the proponent’s response in preparing their final assessment report to the Minister. I urge Dungog Chronicle readers to find out more about critical infrastructure projects at: www.planning.nsw.gov.au Chris Wilson Executive Director - Major Project Assessments NSW Department of Planning
