Media Release - Department of Planning Sydney: 17 September 2009 LATE SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED ON MURRUMBIDGEE TO GOOGONG WATER TRANSFER PROJECT The NSW Department of Planning today announced it would accept submissions on the Murrumbidgee to Googong Water Transfer Project, on the ACT/NSW border, until 2 October 2009. Deputy Director-General, Richard Pearson, said that the decision had been made to accept late submissions following considerable public interest in the proposal. “The public exhibition period will still finish on 18 September, however the Department will accept late submissions for a further two weeks until 2 October,” Mr Pearson said. “The environmental assessment and project documents will also remain publicly available on the Department’s website to be viewed during this time, and throughout the entire assessment process.” The proponent, ACTEW Corporation, is proposing to construct and operate a 13 kilometre water transfer pipeline with a capacity of 100 megalitres per day, which will run from the Murrumbidgee River to Burra Creek to increase flows to the Googong Reservoir. Associated infrastructure proposed to be constructed as part of the project includes: · an intake structure and low lift pump station located on the eastern bank of the Murrumbidgee River at Angle Crossing in the ACT; · a high lift pump station located approximately 290 metres to the east of the intake structure; · an outlet structure located on the southern bank of Burra Creek in NSW within the Googong foreshore area; and · Power supply and a mini hydro power facility. Mr Pearson said both Governments will be in close consultation throughout the assessment process. Project documents for the proposal can be found by visiting www.planning.nsw.gov.au and searching the project on the Major Projects Register under the Development Assessment menu.
