Civic Improvement Plan (CIP)
This Civic Improvement Plan (CIP) for the Newcastle city centre gives design strategies for the public domain and special city projects which are integral to achieving the city vision, public domain character, high quality urban design, and to support growth and development in the city centre. The CIP provides design strategies and the mechanism for contributions to fund the following special city projects:
- Public domain enhancement works
- Hunter Street Mall refurbishment
- Parkland embellishment
- Cultural facilities
- Community facilities
- Access and transport projects
The CIP also includes design strategies for the following components of the public domain:
- Street tree planting
- Upgraded paving and street furniture
- Public art
- Lighting
- Signage
- City ecology initiatives

The CIP documents are available for download in PDF format below. The CIP contains many maps and elements of high quality imagery, making a single file download too large for many internet users. To accommodate those on slower connections, the document has been split into the following sections.
