On 8 April 2019, Singtel Optus Pty Ltd was convicted in the Land and Environment Court of four offences for failing to disclose political donations totalling $5,400 in applications made by a contractor and an employee of Singtel Optus for telecommunications installations in the Snowy Mountains. Singtel Optus pleaded guilty to the offences.
The Court fined Singtel Optus a total of $25,000 for the four offences. Singtel Optus was also ordered to pay the prosecutor’s costs in the agreed amount of $40,000. Additionally, Singtel Optus was also required to publish notice of three of the convictions in newspapers (this order was not available to the Court at the time the other offence was committed).
