On 27 February 2019, the Department issued a fire safety order to the owners of the building at Chatswood Chase shopping centre. The order requires the owners to implement fire safety measures aimed at reducing the risk associated with combustible cladding on the building. The order further requires the owners to notify the Department of the progress of development application for the demolition of two commercial buildings and the reconstruction and expansion of Chatswood Chase shopping centre which is currently under assessment by Willoughby City Council. The building has been identified with external wall panels consisting of aluminium composite panels (ACP). ACP is combustible and poses a fire safety risk. The owners are required to notify the Department of the determination of DA 2017/503 and submit a timeframe for the commencement of works and removal of the external combustible cladding. The owners are required to notify the Department if the external ACP panels have not been removed by 30 August 2019.
