On 13 June 2019, the Department issued a $6,000 Penalty Notice to Glass Recovery Services Pty Ltd ("GRS") for failing to comply with the Minister's development control order requiring GRS to demolish and reconstruct external glass storage bunkers required by the development consent.

It is an offence to fail to comply with an Order. The external bunkers are constructed of concrete, are not sealed, and glass cullet (crushed glass) stockpiles exceed the height of the bunkers. During site inspections the cullet was observed spilling over the bunkers and also through the gaps in the unsealed concrete blocks.

The bunkers are important to contain the glass cullet from becoming airborne, washing into drains or being spread across the site. The Department will continue to monitor compliance with the conditions of consent and the development control order.
