On 30 November 2018, the Department issued a modification to a fire safety order (dated 15 August 2018) for the owner of the building at 142 Abercrombie Street, Redfern. The modification extended the period for compliance with the terms of the fire safety order until 15 February 2019. The fire safety order dated 15 August 2018, required the removal of all external wall panels on the building consisting of aluminium composite cladding (ACP). ACP panels are combustible and pose a fire safety risk.

 

The owner is required to replace the panels with a non-combustible product and provide an inspection report issued by an accredited certifier (A1 or C10) certifying that the replacement panels and method of installation comply with the Building Code of Australia. The fire safety order also included interim measures to reduce fire safety risks associated with the cladding until the rectification work is complete.
