On 12 September 2018, the Department issued a fire safety order to the owner of the building at 1 – 5 Shortland Street, Telopea, to remove all the external wall panels on the building consisting of aluminium composite cladding (ACP). ACP panels are combustible and pose a fire safety risk. The ACP panels on the subject building are located on the ground floor level, adjacent to balconies and to the fire exit. The owner is required to replace the panels with a non-combustible product and provide an inspection report issued by an accredited certifier, certifying that the replacement panels and method of installation comply with the Building Code of Australia. The fire safety order also included interim measures to reduce fire safety risks associated with the cladding until the rectification work is complete. The owner of the building has been working with the Department to address this issue, ensuring the safety of occupants is maintained.

UPDATE: December 2019 – the works required under this order have now been completed
