Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is implementing a program of works to upgrade 34 kilometres of The Northern Road, between Narellan and Penrith. The upgrades form part of the joint NSW and Commonwealth Government's $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to upgrade road infrastructure in western Sydney over the next ten years.
The Department has assessed The Northern Road upgrade – Glenmore Park to Bringelly application, which includes an upgrade to 16 kilometres of existing road between Glenmore Parkway, Glenmore and Mersey Road, Bringelly. The project was assessed as Critical State Significant Infrastructure.
In June 2018, the Minister for Planning approved The Northern Road upgrade – Glenmore Park to Bringelly proposal.
More information about the delivery of the Northern Road is available on the RMS project website.
In December 2018, the Department received a request to modify the previously approved The Northern Road upgrade proposal.
The proposed modification seeks to replace the previously approved twin bridges over Adams Road with a signalised intersection at road level.
The Modification Application was on public exhibition until 19 December 2018.
The Department approved the modification application in June 2019.
All documentation related to the modification is available on our major projects website.
