Crows Nest is one of six new stations for the Sydney Metro ‘City & Southwest’, which extends new metro rail from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour, through the Sydney CBD to Bankstown.

The station was approved in January 2017 by the Minister for Planning as part of the State significant infrastructure (SSI) application for. the future Sydney Metro network, specifically the Chatswood to Sydenham section.

In November 2018, Sydney Metro submitted a State Significant Development (SSD) application seeking planning consent for an over station development above the approved Crows Nest Metro station.

The concept application was approved in December 2020 and further details about next steps and planning assessment process for this project can be found below.

SSD project stages

Future stages will seek detailed SSD consent for the construction and other physical works associated with the project, and will be subject to separate public exhibition periods and assessments.

Crows Nest Metro sites rezoning

To allow development of sites at and around the new Crows Nest Sydney Metro Station, the department held a separate (and parallel) strategic planning process to amend planning controls in the North Sydney Local Environmental Plan that apply to the new station sites.

Following an extensive assessment by the department, the Crows Nest Metro sites were approved in August 2020.
