In January 2017, the Minister for Planning approved the Sydney Metro City and Southwest – Chatswood to Sydenham project as a Critical State Significant Infrastructure project, which included the Pitt Street Metro station.

The Pitt Street Metro station is located below Pitt Street and Castlereagh Street, between Park Street and Bathurst Street. The station consists of a northern entrance located on Park Street and a southern entrance located on Bathurst Street. The ‘Integrated Station Development’ will be made up of the Metro station and ‘Over Station Development' (OSD) projects.

The Pitt Street South OSD is identified as State Significant Development as it is associated with railway infrastructure and for commercial premises or residential accommodation with a Capital Investment Value of more than $30 million.
