We want to create vibrant, attractive and well-connected communities, where people can live and work with good access to public transport, community facilities, open spaces and shops.
Planning is underway to provide more social and affordable homes in Riverwood Estate. Land and Housing Corporation is working in collaboration with the Department, City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council, Georges River Council and relevant State agencies to plan for more homes, with better access to transport and services.
Riverwood Estate is close to Riverwood station, with access to the Sydney CBD and the airport. It currently has 994 social housing dwellings on over 30 hectares of government-owned land.
Riverwood Estate is considered a State Significant Precinct. These are typically large government-owned sites that are of state or regional importance.
Land and Housing Corporation will undertake a range of studies to get a better understanding of the area and its land use potential. These include traffic and transport, urban design and environmental studies.
Land and Housing Corporation will prepare a draft plan that will identify appropriate land use and development controls for Riverwood Estate. As part of this process, Land and Housing Corporation will be talking to the community, including its social housing residents and other stakeholders.
The technical studies and draft plans will then be submitted to the Department for review and made available for consultation.
Community input will play an important part in the plans for revitalising Riverwood Estate. We will seek feedback from community and key stakeholders on the rezoning proposal once a draft plan is out for consultation.
