NSW Department of Planning and Environment

Why we got involved

Woolworths lodged two applications for Distribution Centres in Greater Sydney. The application was held up because of potential traffic impacts from the delivery trucks that would be coming in and out of the area.

What we did

The Planning Delivery Unit (PDU) hosted workshops with key stakeholders – The Department of Planning and Environment (DPE), Transport for NSW and the developer – to identify roadblocks and solve problems. They worked with all parties to make sure traffic noise and requirements could be met within existing conditions.

What happened

DPE approved the project in late 2020 with conditions for QUBE (the developer) to manage noise and traffic conditions. Valued at $1.1 billion in local investment, the two new distribution centres will create 1,300 jobs over the next 4 years.

"Although still in its infancy, the PDU has been of significant assistance in focusing all parties on the priority issues."

-QUBE (the developer on this project)
