Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan

The Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan (CPCP) will enable growth in western Sydney to 2056 and beyond and delivers important development and biodiversity outcomes.

The CPCP will contribute to the Western Parkland City by supporting the delivery of housing, jobs and infrastructure while protecting important biodiversity, including threatened plants and animals.

Latest updates

The NSW Government has announced a series of actions to enhance the CPCP's biodiversity outcomes to ensure we get the balance right between the need for additional housing and protecting Western Sydney’s unique biodiversity. Read more on the enhancements on our current projects page.

The department has released the Caring for Country Aboriginal Outcomes Strategy to support the delivery of the CPCP. The strategy is focused on 18 actions that have been co-developed with the Aboriginal communities of Western Sydney. Read more on Partnering with Western Sydney’s Aboriginal community.

On 26 March 2024, the Commonwealth Minister for Environment and Water granted an approval of the actions described in the CPCP in accordance with Part 10 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC Act).

This plan will contribute to the Western Parkland City by supporting the delivery of housing, jobs and infrastructure while protecting important biodiversity including threatened plants and animals.
