Conservation management plans

Conservation management plans (CMPs) provide guidance on how to protect and care for the cultural, historical and natural values of significant sites, buildings, objects and landscapes over time.

CMPs identify what is important about a heritage place and provides clear guidance on how change can be managed so its heritage significance is respected and preserved for the future.

Placemaking NSW has prepared conservation management plans for many of the heritage items under its care and control which are available via The Rocks Discovery Museum. If what you’re looking for is not there, email Placemaking NSW at [email protected]

Standard and agency specific heritage exemptions

The Heritage Act 1977 includes some standard exemptions for works to State Listed Heritage items.

Placemaking NSW may carry out routine and minor maintenance works to its buildings and places including painting, signage repairs or safety upgrades under broad “standard exemptions”, and also has a series of agency-specific exemptions that allow for certain types of work without requiring Heritage NSW approval, and as long as all applicable general conditions are met.
