  • A turn-up-and-go metro service between St Marys and Western Sydney Aerotropolis
  • Six new metro stations: St Marys (connected to the existing railway station), Orchard Hills, Luddenham Road, Airport Business Park, Airport Terminal and Aerotropolis
  • Modifications to St Marys railway station to support the transport interchange and a stabling and maintenance facility and operational control facility at Orchard Hills
  • Infrastructure works including transport interchanges, car parking, active transport connections and public domain works to support station precincts.

Consultation and feedback

The State Significant Infrastructure application, Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and accompanying documents for the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport were on public exhibition from 21 October 2020 until 2 December 2020.

The department thanks the community, councils and other stakeholders for their feedback during public exhibition. This feedback helped us better understand the opinions and concerns of the community and informed our assessment of the project.

All documents related to the application, including the EIS, are available to view on our Major Projects website.

Application approved

The Minister for Planning and Public Spaces approved the application in July 2021. This approval and the Planning Secretary’s environmental assessment report are available on our Major Projects website.

Elements of the project located outside the Western Sydney International Airport site have been identified as State Significant Infrastructure (SSI) under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The SSI determination did not apply to parts of the project located within the Airport site, these parts are subject to requirements under the Airports Act 1996. However, the department’s assessment considered the whole project.
