Ideally located in the centre of metropolitan Sydney, Sydney Olympic Park is known internationally as a world-class sporting and event precinct. Sydney Olympic Park is also a highly suitable location to plan for new jobs, homes and services, and bring life to the destination after hours.

The development of Sydney Olympic Park is directed by the Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2030  . This Master Plan is reviewed and updated every 5 years, with the current version of the Master Plan being the 2018 Review.

The Master Plan identifies opportunities to transform the precinct into a thriving urban centre with a new school, five additional or enhanced parks, employment opportunities, residential communities and retail.

Creating a vibrant town centre

The objectives and vision for Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2030 seek to protect the Park’s role as a premier destination for cultural, entertainment, recreation and sporting events, while protecting and enhancing the public spaces and surrounding parklands.

Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2030 (Interim Metro Review)

With a new Sydney Metro Station announced for Sydney Olympic Park, there is an opportunity to breathe new life into this iconic location. The Master Plan 2030 (Interim Metro Review) is required to enable a new integrated Metro station and precinct development.

The Master Plan 2030 (Interim Metro Review) outlines changes to the built form and street network impacted by the location of the new Metro station. This includes:

  • Changes to land use and planning controls to integrate the Sydney Metro West station into the Central Precinct of Sydney Olympic Park
  • A new pedestrian plaza linking the Metro Station to Olympic Boulevard
  • A bus interchange on Figtree Drive
  • Changes to the street network to improve access to the Metro station
  • A new Central Urban Park connected to the Abattoir Precinct.

Have your say

The Interim Metro Review is on exhibition until Wednesday 15 December 2021. We welcome feedback on these proposed changes to planning controls.

Place Vision and Strategy

Simultaneously, work has commenced on a new Place Vision and Strategy for Sydney Olympic Park which will leverage the Metro opportunity to position Sydney Olympic Park as a preferred location to live, work, discover, play and protect. The community, stakeholders and visitors will have the opportunity to get involved in shaping the future of Sydney Olympic Park with the co-creation of a new Place Vision and Strategy in the next 6 months. This will then lead into a more comprehensive master plan review and the development of a new Master Plan 2050 by mid-2023.
