Our vision

Our 20-year vision

NSW will have housing that supports security, comfort, independence and choice for all people at all stages of their lives.

Access to safe and secure housing is a basic human right. Good housing benefits everyone – individuals, households and communities – as well as the economy.

Housing needs can change throughout our lives, reflecting aspirations and lifestyle, as well as economic, environmental and social conditions.

Housing expectations in Australia 50 years ago were very different from those of today. As future generations enter the housing market, demand will continue for new and alternative types of housing.

Pillars of the NSW housing system

Our vision for housing has 4 pillars: supply, diversity, affordability and resilience. Together they contribute to improving the lives of NSW’s people.

We need to provide the right type of housing in the right locations, considering factors such as infrastructure, the market, social health and the environment. Action in one pillar may influence others.
