Urban Development Program

The Greater Sydney Urban Development Program (UDP) is the NSW Government’s program for monitoring housing and employment land supply and assisting infrastructure coordination in Greater Sydney.

Better access to housing, employment and infrastructure data

The UDP aims to provide a direct link to the best available NSW Government information on housing, jobs and infrastructure in Greater Sydney.

The Department of Planning and Environment has developed the UDP in consultation with local and state government, industry and service providers. It makes government datasets available to industry and councils to assist with their longer-term strategic planning and investment decision making.

The key aims of the UDP are to:

  • provide more transparent, detailed and accessible data - improving the quality and consistency of the evidence base used by all stakeholders
  • promote broader and earlier engagement between industry and government stakeholders
  • encourage and improve coordination of infrastructure servicing.

Online dashboard

A central component of the UDP is an online dashboard which brings together, for the first time, government data on housing, employment and infrastructure.

Following extensive testing with planners, councils and other users, we have developed the Greater Sydney UDP dashboard. The dashboard brings together currently available housing data such as the metropolitan housing monitor, greenfield housing monitor and the annual Sydney Housing Supply Forecast into a central location.

The department will continue testing and development throughout 2021 and beyond to ensure the UDP evolves as an accurate, accessible and reliable evidence base for planning and investment decisions. We will continue to roll out enhancements to the UDP in phases, adding and updating data as it becomes available.

This will be an iterative process to be co-designed with users so we encourage you to give is feedback (through the feedback option within the dashboard). This will inform the UDP’s future development and functionality. Planned additions to the UDP dashboard include a link to the Jobs and Economic Mapping Tool, infrastructure information and more.
