The Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct the precinct) was announced in November 2019.

The department is working with the Department of Regional NSW to develop a 40-year master plan for the Snowy Mountains precinct.

The purpose of the master plan is to expand the precinct from a one season visitor economy to a year-round destination, that will increase investment and jobs in the area.

It also aims to leverage the region’s natural beauty and unique climate to improve tourism opportunities, as well as the infrastructure and services needed to meet the growing needs of permanent residents, seasonal workers and temporary visitors.

Draft master plan

The Snowy Mountains SAP Precinct Draft Master Plan was on exhibition for 56 days, until midnight 23 August 2021 and the community were invited to have their say.  This is an important part of the process and all feedback received is considered in the development of the final plan.

Information on the master plan and supporting documents can be found on the NSW Planning Portal.

Community consultation sessions

The community are invited to drop in to one of the upcoming information sessions.   We will be sharing information on the feedback received during exhibition of the draft master plan. We will also provide details of the next steps in the process and an opportunity to ask questions on the draft master plan.

Session times:

  • Wednesday 8 December: 3-6pm
  • Thursday 9 December: 9-11am

Jindabyne Bowling and Sports Club, 2 Bay St Jindabyne

A video outlining feedback received during the public exhibition and next steps in the master planning process will be available here for those unable to attend the drop-in sessions soon.

What happens next?

The submissions we have received are being assessed and carefully considered by the department.

A submissions report will be published with the final master plan, and will include a summary of feedback received during the exhibition period. It will also indicate how feedback has informed the finalisation of the master plan.  Before the plan is finalised, the department will inform the community and key stakeholders of changes made to the Master Plan based on feedback.

We are planning to finalise the Snowy Mountains SAP Master Plan in the first half of 2022.

There will also be additional opportunities for the public to provide feedback on the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct.  This includes consultation on the future delivery and development control plans which will guide next phase of the planning and delivery process. The planning framework is outlined on page 15 of the draft master Plan.

Details of future consultation will be published on our website and details sent directly to our database, so please register your details below to be kept updated.
