The Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Corridor Strategy

The Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Strategy provides a planned approach to growth with infrastructure delivery and development co-ordinated along the corridor.

The Strategy plans for new homes and jobs over the next 20 years and builds on the Sydney Metro City and Southwest project.

The station precincts are already great places to live, and each has its own unique qualities. This Strategy will enhance the precincts by:

  • valuing and respecting neighbourhood character;
  • providing improved open spaces;
  • renewing town centres; and
  • providing community services and facilities.

The initial draft Strategy was released in October 2015. This revised Strategy addresses the feedback received from public submissions, community workshops, meetings, and additional technical studies.

There are four planned precincts within the Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Corridor:

The precincts were announced by the NSW Government as part of a housing affordability package on 1 June 2017. The program tackles housing affordability by providing more new homes to help put downward pressure on house prices. Planning for these areas is coordinated by state and local governments which helps ensure infrastructure such as schools, parks, community facilities, public transport and road upgrades are delivered to support community needs.

Master planning for these precincts will start shortly and will:

  • build on the precinct plans developed as part of the Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Corridor Strategy
  • involve more detailed studies and community consultation
  • result in rezoning of the precincts.
