Wagga Wagga was announced as a Special Activation Precinct (SAP) in January 2019.
The SAP capitalises on the Inland Rail Project, bringing manufacturing, agribusiness, and freight and logistics to Wagga Wagga.
The Wagga Wagga Special Activation Precinct (Wagga Wagga precinct) Master Plan came into effect on 21 May 2021.
Background
We conducted technical studies that covered topics such as environment and heritage, sustainability and infrastructure and consulted with the community.
The results of the technical studies formed an evidence base for the Wagga Wagga precinct draft Master Plan.
We exhibited the draft Master Plan and technical studies during July-September 2020, along with a Discussion Paper that detailed the Explanation of Intended Effect (EIE) of an amendment to the State Environmental Planning Policy (Activation Precincts) 2020. The Master Plan for the Wagga Wagga precinct has now been endorsed and the exhibition documents, submissions we received, and the submission report are available on the Planning Portal.
In April 2022 the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation exhibited the draft Wagga Wagga precinct Delivery Plan. The Wagga Wagga precinct Delivery Plan sets out criteria for design, landscaping, infrastructure planning, delivery and proposal assessment.
A Delivery Plan is a statutory document, referenced in the State Environmental Planning Policy (Precincts-Regional) 2021, and is required before any development can occur within a Special Activation Precinct.
Next steps
The Wagga Wagga precinct Delivery Plan has now been endorsed and is available along with a submissions report on the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation website.
The precinct’s final delivery plan outlines how businesses can set-up and operate in the precinct and sets out criteria for the precinct’s design, landscaping, infrastructure planning, delivery and proposal assessment process.
Applications for the new streamlined planning process including an Activation Precinct Certificate can now be received by the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation. If the development meets the requirements of the Wagga Wagga Precinct Master Plan and the Wagga Wagga Precinct Delivery Plan, an Activation Precinct Certificate can be issued for a Development Application or Complying Development Certificate application.
The Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation has established a business concierge service for the Wagga Wagga precinct. If you are looking to expand your business assets or to invest in the precinct, call 1300 73 44 66 and the team can assist you in accessing the streamlined planning approval process.
