In January 2017, the Minister for Planning approved the Waterloo Metro Station. The station will be part of the future Sydney Metro network, specifically the Chatswood to Sydenham section. Waterloo is one of six new stations for the Sydney Metro ‘City & Southwest’, which extends new metro rail from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour, through the Sydney CBD to Bankstown.


In November 2018, Sydney Metro submitted a Concept State Significant Development application seeking consent for the broad concept for an Over Station Development above the Waterloo Metro Station. The development will be above and around the previously approved Waterloo metro station and have direct access to the station.


The development is identified as State Significant Development (SSD).

Separate development applications for each stage of this project must be lodged with and assessed by the Department:
