The Department has recently released a significant upgrade to our Major Projects website, including a great range of features to help make it easier to stay informed and do business with us.

Lendlease Communities, have submitted a request to modify the Calderwood concept plan, seeking approval for additional housing supply.
Amended proposed concept plans for Cockle Bay have been lodged with the Department and include a new retail shops, bars and restaurants, along with a commercial office tower up to 195m in height.
Coffs Harbour Bypass
The Coffs Harbour Bypass is a 14-kilometre bypass of the Coffs Harbour urban area, from Englands Road in the south to Sapphire in the north.
Eastlakes Shopping Centre Redevelopment
The Eastlakes Shopping Centre redevelopment was approved in September 2013. Changes to the approved development’s southern site were also approved in June 2020.
Energy from waste
Energy from waste technology involves the thermal treatment of waste or waste-derived materials for the recovery of energy.
The Hunters Hill remediation project relates to three Government owned properties at 7-11 Nelson Parade, Hunters Hill.
The Inland Rail is a freight rail line connection between Melbourne and Brisbane. The route will be approximately 1700km in length and include over 1000km of major upgrades and enhancements and 600km of new track via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
Ivanhoe Estate is the first major project proposed under the Future Directions policy and Communities Plus program. The concept and Stage 1 works applications for the redevelopment of Ivanhoe Estate have now been approved.
The M6 Motorway (previously F6 Extension) program of works is a proposed multi-lane road link extending from the New M5 Motorway at Arncliffe to the Princes Highway at Loftus. The Stage 1 Application was approved in December 2019.
The Department has assessed The Northern Road upgrade, a program of works to upgrade 34 kilometres of The Northern Road, between Narellan and Penrith.
Parramatta Light Rail - Stage 1
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Parramatta Light Rail – Stage 1 has been received by the Department of Planning and Environment.
The Pemulwuy Project
In June 2009, the Aboriginal Housing Company received concept approval from the Department for a development in Redfern. The Aboriginal Housing Company named the development the Pemulwuy Project.
In 2017 the State Environmental Planning Policy (Educational Establishments and Child Care Facilities) was introduced with provisions that apply to school State Significant Development applications.
Shell Cove Boat Harbour Precinct Concept Plan (Modification)
In August 2017, Frasers Property Australia lodged a modification application to the Concept Plan Approval for the Shell Cove Boat Harbour Precinct.
The Snowy 2.0 and Transmission Project is a proposed expansion of the generating capacity of the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
Two State Significant Development applications for the new Sydney Fish Market were approved in June 2020.
The Sydney Football Stadium is being redeveloped on the site of the original stadium at Moore Park Sydney.
Sydney Metro project
Sydney Metro is a new standalone railway which will include 39 metro stations and more than 90km of new metro rail, from Rouse Hill to Bankstown through Sydney’s CBD and from Westmead to Sydney’s CBD.
The Art Gallery of NSW has unveiled plans to transform the Gallery through a major expansion. The working title for the project is ‘Sydney Modern'.
Tweed Valley Hospital
The new major referral hospital will be constructed on a greenfield site in the Tweed-Byron region. Two State significant development applications for the concept and Stage 1 works as well as Stage 2 main works for construction and operation have now been approved.
WestConnex M4 M5
WestConnex is a 33 kilometre tolled motorway linking Sydney’s west and south west with Sydney Airport and Port Botany via the St Peters interchange.
