In April 2020, the NSW Government introduced the Planning System Acceleration Program to accelerate the assessment of State-led planning projects to contribute to NSW’s construction pipeline and support the State’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Government is now offering councils support to unlock the benefits of an accelerated assessment program through the sharing of key resources and additional support, to unlock additional investment that will create more jobs and stimulate local economies.

The program

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is working with interested councils to develop a Council Accelerated Assessment Program unique to each LGA that will help stimulate local and regional economic activity.

The Department provides program controls, resources, guidance and support to councils to help them create and adapt accelerated assessment processes already developed and implemented by the Department as part of the Planning System Acceleration Program.

The program works alongside the Department’s ‘One Stop Shop’ whose staff are available to help councils with accelerated processes and navigate State Government agencies more swiftly.

NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program

We are also working with councils to provide them with incentives to accelerate development applications and rezonings, meet local demand for housing and employment and deliver a legacy of safe, quality open and public space.

The $250 million program funding available to 68 councils engaged with the ePlanning program as at 1 July 2020. These councils must meet strict performance targets to access the funds, which can be used to improve or acquire open and public space.

More information

Councils interested in participating in the program can register an expression of interest by contacting their local Council Engagement Manager or emailing olg@olg.nsw.gov.au.
