A centralised location for housing data and projections

The Housing Evidence Centre makes it easy to access the housing data and information you need to make evidence-based decisions. As recognised in the NSW Housing Strategy, accessing, using and collecting housing data and evidence is essential for NSW Government agencies, local government, industry, and non-government organisations, as it drives housing programs, investment, and service delivery. Open access to data is also important for accountability and transparency to the community. Good data and evidence support targeted policy and programs, complex problem-solving, monitoring, evaluating, forecasting and identifying future needs..

Housing evidence is categorised by the 4 pillars of the NSW Housing Strategy:

  • Supply: the amount, location and timing of the supply of new housing. Data and evidence related to supply helps us understand needs and informs when and where new housing will be delivered.
  • Diversity: different housing types and choices. Data and evidence related to diversity helps us understand and plan for diverse housing choices that reflect the needs and preferences of households.
  • Affordability: housing costs and tenures. Data and evidence related to affordability helps us understand and plan for housing affordability, choices and aspirations.
  • Resilience: safety, comfort and resilience of housing. Evidence related to resilience helps us understand and plan safe, comfortable and resilient homes that address community needs and environmental issues.
