The Western Sydney Aerotropolis is set to become a thriving economic centre in Western Sydney.
Close to the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, the Aerotropolis will contribute towards 200,000 new jobs in the broader Western Parkland City. It will be a high–skill centre across a number of industries, including aerospace and defence manufacturing, health care, freight and logistics, agribusiness, education and research.
The finalisation of the Precinct Plan and the Development Control Plan in 2022 allows landowners to submit development applications (DAs) to the relevant council to begin renewal of the Aerotropolis.
Where a development application meets key criteria for state significant development, applications will be assessed by the Department as State Significant Development (SSD).
The relevant consent authority will need to consider the planning framework for the Aerotropolis when assessing DAs or SSDs, and the community will have an opportunity to provide feedback on proposals.
Recent updates
Secondary dwelling reforms were approved in 2026 to allow small secondary dwellings, such as granny flats and studios, on eligible land within parts of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis that are least affected by aircraft noise. Secondary dwellings are limited to 85 square metres and must include aircraft noise attenuation measures.

The Aviation Safeguarding Guidelines help protect 24-hour operation of the new Western Sydney Airport. The guidelines draw on information from the Western Sydney Aerotropolis Development Control Plan.
The draft Base Farm Greendale Master Plan, prepared by Greenfield Development Company No. 2 (GDC), is on exhibition for public feedback until 5pm, Monday 29 September 2025.
The GDC Master Plan is the newest master plan for the Aerotropolis. It has the potential to deliver more than 10,000 jobs within close proximity to the Western Sydney International Airport, Bradfield City Centre, and key public transport services.
The master plan proposes up to 1.4 million square metres of gross floor area including large-scale warehouse and industrial buildings intended to boost supply chain industries to support agribusiness as well as freight movements within the nearby cargo precinct of the new airport. A local centre surrounded by open space is included in the proposal, dedicated to retail, commercial, community and recreational uses. The proposal includes changes to the Western Parkland City State Environmental Planning Policy (set out in the Explanation of Intended Effect) and the Aerotropolis Precinct Plan to support the implementation of the master plan.

The IPG Badgerys Creek Road Master Plan (Master Plan), prepared by Ingham Property Group (IPG), has been approved by the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces on 11 July 2025.
The Master Plan for the 184-hectare IPG site includes an enterprise estate with warehouse and distribution centres, light industry, and a small-scale local centre including commercial and retail uses, as well as the provision of open space.

The Bradfield City Centre Master Plan was approved in September 2024. The master plan sets out a framework for future development within the city centre, including new planning controls, future road networks and open space.
The master plan, prepared by the Bradfield Development Authority, has the capacity to provide 10,000 homes and 20,000 jobs, as part of more than 100,000 jobs across the Aerotropolis.
