Vivid Sydney transforms Sydney city into a wonderland of light, music and ideas. Running between 26 May and 17 June, it is a celebration of innovation, creativity and community.

During the festival Vivid Ideas invites audiences to come together and share industry updates, thoughts, best practises, innovation and opportunities.




So, we’ve put together a list of ‘must-dos’ for anyone who loves design, architecture and planning:


A Decade Of Change: Riverside Regeneration by Boat
When: 29 May 2017
Why you should go: Enjoy a sunset cruise along the banks of the changing Parramatta River with this tour of the Vivid lights. The cruise will also see design, development and place management professionals from both the private and public sector discuss place making.


BIG IDEAS IN PLACE: Place Leaders Asia Pacific Conference 2017
When: 29 May – 31 May
Why you should go: In this dynamic 3-day conversation you’ll share, provoke, challenge, discover and experience the biggest trends and ideas shaping the future of our places.


Prepare and attend with ideas that address global trends affecting us at the local level.


Place by Place Forum – Exploring the importance of Place Thinking in Affordable and Social housing
When: 31 May 2017
Why you should go: Experts will discuss local and international case studies and best practice around affordable and social housing.


Ghost in the Design - Inner Forces Driving Local and Global Architecture
When: 03 June

Good Design Festival
When: 08 – 11 June
Why you should go: See all the latest in design, creativity and innovation. From automotive through to graphic design, this event has something for all design and tech buffs.

Redesigning Urban Inventions: City As A Service

When: 11 June
Why you should go: Join the ‘City as a Service’ conversation, exploring the role of technology and infrastructure in shaping our lives and cities of the future.


There will be a live demonstration showcasing work in the field with an expert panel to inspire innovation in how you look at cities.


Urban Tweaks: Prototyping Creative and Liveable Cities
When: 11 June
Why you should go: Contemporary cities are increasingly trialling urban renewal concepts to address cultural, social, economic and political issues. This event explores the new platforms for alternative experiences of a city as a sustainable, thriving and inspired environment, designed by and for its people.


Tidal (exhibition)
When: 26 May – 17June
Why you should go: Incredible 3D installations chart Sydney’s evolution from before First Contact to the present day. Tidal invites audiences to experience the transformation of the city with narrative created with real-time tidal data and sampled audio weaved throughout the streets.


T-Square and a Dress
When: 26 May – 17 June
Why you should go: Find out about the role of women on our built environment between the nineteenth century and today.
