The NSW Government’s planning reforms are driving momentum in the housing pipeline.

The housing supply dashboard is an interactive dashboard monitoring key data on land supply, new homes lodged and approved and state-wide completions. Data can be viewed by geographic region, development type and over different time periods.

More information on the data and metrics included in the housing supply dashboard can be found in the 'Data Glossary' section of the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

What data is on the housing supply pipeline dashboard

The data on the housing supply pipeline dashboard includes:

  • Number of dwellings lodged since 1 July 2024
  • Number of dwellings approved for development since 1 July 2024
  • Number of dwellings approved for construction since 1 July 2024
  • Number of state-wide housing completions
  • Subdivision and greenfield activity
Where is the data from?

The data is from the NSW Planning Portal, Australian Bureau of Statistics and the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

Why is this data included?

These priority metrics support the tracking of progress towards of NSW's shared target of delivering 377,000 new homes by June 2029 under the National Housing Accord and the five-year targets which have been allocated to 43 LGAs and regional NSW.

How often will the data be updated?

Data on lodged and approved dwellings is updated monthly. Data on completions is updated quarterly. Data on land supply, including subdivision and greenfield activity, is updated quarterly, while subdivision activity will be updated yearly. The dashboard includes further information under 'next updates' on future releases.

Why has the new dashboard been implemented?

There is currently no NSW-wide reporting on housing supply. While the Department publishes housing activity data through the Urban Development Program (UDP) online dashboards, these are limited to LGAs in Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Lower Hunter and Greater Newcastle, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Upper Hunter and Mid-Coast, Capital Region and the North Coast.

The new dashboard will enable the Department to consolidate the existing seven UDP dashboards into one accessible, digital platform.

Will the Urban Development Program dashboards continue to be updated?

The new housing supply pipeline dashboard will replace the Urban Development Program (UDP) dashboards. Historical data on the UDP dashboards can continue to be accessed.

How is the housing supply pipeline different from the Planning Performance Dashboard?

The Planning Performance Dashboard reports on the number of applications. The housing supply pipeline dashboard reports on the number of dwellings in applications.

Will more data be released?

Other data on dwellings from the NSW's Government's planning reforms will be published in 2026.

The housing supply dashboard provides a strong evidence base to inform land-use planning and infrastructure investment decisions. It includes the latest data on local housing completions and other government data on land supply and housing delivery.
