The new Sydney Fish Market, home to 40 retailers, stands as Sydney's premier seafood and dining epicentre.
It is the largest market of its kind in the southern hemisphere and will serve as one of Australia's leading tourist destinations. As part of the State Significant Blackwattle Bay precinct, it will form one of Sydney's newest inner city waterfront destinations, making the harbour foreshore more accessible and attractive whilst serving as a dynamic cultural, residential, commercial and civic hub.
First Nations heritage
In the public domain area of the new Sydney Fish Market, locals and visitors can reconnect with First Nations heritage and maritime history by exploring 5 permanent installations that reflect the living stories of past, present and future.
These include 3 bronze sculptures on the promenade that tell the Stories of Country and coastline including the Saltwater People stories, an interactive water play area ‘Land of the Giant Pippies,’ and an installation of ‘Coal Loader Palm Grove,’ that pays homage to the site’s industrial history.
