The Parks for People program delivers high-quality, sustainable open space in growing communities, supporting new housing with vibrant, well-connected public places.

We are working with councils and communities to create inclusive parks that showcase best-practice design and improve liveability for generations to come.

New parks for Transport Oriented Development (TOD) Accelerated Precincts

The NSW and Commonwealth governments are investing in new, high-quality public open spaces for growing communities in areas close to key Metro and rail stations.

The NSW Government has committed $300 million towards high-quality parks, playgrounds, and innovative urban squares in these precincts. This is to ensure that as we build more homes, we prioritise liveability and community wellbeing.

Our park design process

Phase 1 – Gathering ideas

We engage with local communities to gather innovative ideas for enhancing local parks. We capture residents’ visions and aspirations for these public open spaces through community consultation that can include workshops, discussions and surveys.

This provides valuable insights that informs the vision for these public open spaces.

Phase 2 – Draft concept plans

After hearing our communities' big ideas and doing technical research, we share exciting new park concept designs for further community feedback.

Phase 3 – Final concepts

After seeking feedback on the draft designs, we present the final designs for each project. Following this, construction can commence.

Timelines for each of park varies, with updates provided on each project page.

Where are the parks?

The first set of Parks for People delivered are located across Greater Sydney, at Appin, Beaumont Hills and Leppington. Park improvements have been delivered at Carrawood Park, George Kendall Riverside Park, Nandi Reserve and Tench Reserve.
