Shaping the future of Warrawong Parklands

The NSW Government has released a plan to transform the Warrawong Parklands into a premier waterfront destination for locals and visitors to connect, play, relax and enjoy nature. The Warrawong Parklands master plan (PDF, 24.6 MB) incorporates feedback from the community and stakeholders.

Key features of the plan include:

  • nearly 10 kilometres of new, accessible pedestrian and cycle paths and walking trails
  • a 320-metre wetland boardwalk, with panoramic views connecting the east and west side of the parkland
  • an Olympic-standard skatepark, upgraded sports field, new inclusive playgrounds, and dedicated nature-play areas
  • improved lake access with steps for casual fishing
  • flexible spaces for community events, outdoor performances, and lakeside dining
  • a strong focus on preserving natural features and restoring the wetland environment and biodiversity
  • a new accessible paddle board and kayak launch pontoon, which following feedback will be closer to the playground, instead of near the cadet unit and rowing club.

To support the Warrawong Parklands, and provide safe public access to Lake Illawarra foreshore, the NSW Government also invested $5 million in the Warrawong Seawall upgrade in the 2025–26 NSW Budget.

Warrawong Seawall

The NSW Government has invested $5 million in the NSW 2025-26 Budget towards a new seawall to restore safe public access to the northern edge of Lake Illawarra.

The new seawall at Kully Bay will replace the existing unsafe structure and features an environmentally sensitive design that supports marine habitat and enhances the natural environment for generations to come.

The new seawall is a major step towards the future transformation of the 32-hectare Warrawong Parklands into a premier waterfront destination.

It will be delivered in accordance with local and state environmental management plans, including the Lake Illawarra Coastal Management Program (2019) and the Wollongong Coastal Zone Management Plan: Management Study (2017).

How we developed the design

The parkland master plan was developed in close collaboration with the local community, key stakeholders and design experts.

The master plan creation has 3 phases:

  1. Phase 1

    18 November to 13 December 2024

We are committed to preserving the area’s unique environment and scenic beauty while creating sustainable ways for the community to connect with this special place. We sought your feedback to shape the future of Warrawong Parklands. Thank you for your valuable contributions.

Discover the community’s big ideas from Phase 1 in our What We Heard Report (PDF, 310 KB).

  2. Phase 2

    17 September to 15 October 2025

We shared the draft master plan for further feedback. This phase helps us to refine the vision based on community insights.

Discover the community's ideas from the second round of consultation in our Phase 2 – What We Heard Report (PDF, 220 KB).

  3. Phase 3

    23 March 2026

We released the final master plan, which incorporates feedback from the community and key stakeholders:
