The Bays precinct is located 2 km west of the Sydney CBD, encompassing areas including Blackwattle Bay, Wentworth Park, Glebe Island, White Bay, Rozelle Bay, Rozelle Railyards and White Bay Power Station.
The Minister for Planning and Public Spaces announced a new approach to precinct planning in late 2019.
This precinct is currently undergoing urban renewal and transformation, with the renewal of three key sites.
Bays West
Bays West is currently in the early stages of planning, led by the department. Under the new approach to precinct planning in NSW, the department will collaborate with Inner West Council and consult with other government agencies.
Blackwattle Bay
Blackwattle Bay area was nominated for investigations as a potential State Significant Precinct by UrbanGrowth NSW (now known as Infrastructure NSW) in 2016. Infrastructure NSW is leading investigations and the preparation of a rezoning proposal. The department will assess the proposal in collaboration with the City of Sydney council and other government agencies.
Sydney Fish Market
The new Sydney Fish Market, home to 40 retailers, stands as Sydney's premier seafood and dining epicentre.
