Western Sydney residents will benefit from more jobs close to home and new improved open greenspace as a result of the sale of government land in Prospect.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes said the vacant 21-hectare Huntingwood East industrial site, located between the M4 and Great Western Highway, is ready for business with necessary zoning and infrastructure in place, creating new employment opportunities for the local community.
Proceeds from the sale will also fund new and improved open greenspace such as the NSW Government’s Green Grid network of parks, cycling and walking paths, and improvements to the Western Sydney Parklands.
“This is a win-win for Western Sydney, with land unlocked for more jobs and funds for new and improved open space. Projects like this make people’s lives better by creating places where people can work, play and live happy, fulfilling lives,” Mr Stokes said.
“As Sydney grows, it’s important the community reaps the benefits of that growth through more jobs close to home, high-quality open greenspace areas, better public facilities and improved transport and infrastructure.”
The Green Grid is an interlinked network of open spaces, parks, natural areas, tree-lined walkways and cycleways across the city, which is designed to link homes, workplaces and recreational areas.
Funding for the Green Grid comes from surplus government land sales. The Greater Sydney Commission will identify future priority projects for the network.
The Western Sydney Parklands Trust will also receive funds for ongoing development of picnic and play facilities at Bungarribee Park, new tracks and bike trails through the park and environmental restoration of Cumberland Plain Woodland throughout the park.
