The Transport and Infrastructure State Environmental Planning Policy provides flexible planning pathways for essential land management infrastructure. This makes it easier to protect, improve, and use land across the state.
Landscape rehydration infrastructure
Landscape rehydration infrastructure uses natural materials (plants, logs, and rocks) to slow water flow in streams and raise water levels. This keeps water in the landscape longer, allowing it to seep into nearby soil. The infrastructure aims to:
- Improve soil health and plant growth.
- Reduce erosion.
- Moisten the soil.
The Policy enables landowners to repair, restore, and rehydrate dry land without relying solely on rainfall. The planning pathway allows landowners to restore streams on their property without development approval, making landscape restoration faster and easier.
Landscape rehydration infrastructure is permitted as development without consent (Division 5.1 Assessment) under the Policy with a simple planning pathway:
- No development approval required from council.
- Environmental assessment must be prepared.
- State agency approvals still required.
