To create a more sustainable, liveable and cooler urban environment, we need to improve urban greening across our cities. This means planting more trees and shrubs in our streets, verges, parks and backyards. More shade, cleaner air and beautiful spaces lead to more resilient communities.

The NSW Government has several initiatives to help address urban heat, create greener neighbourhoods and improve the overall urban environment.

The Greening our City program is an urban greening program that mitigates the impacts of urban heat and climate change by increasing tree canopy and urban biodiversity.

The Greener Neighbourhoods program empowers councils to create cooler, shadier neighbourhoods.
