Regional and Place teams
Regional and Place planning teams service the department in regional NSW and metropolitan Sydney.
The department’s planning and assessment teams evaluate planning proposals and rezoning reviews, as well as preparing regional plans for regional areas of NSW, to achieve high-quality planning outcomes for land use.
The teams liaise between the department and local government. They work closely with stakeholders and the community to ensure balanced and sustainable outcomes.
The teams:
- help deliver strategies initiated by local councils
- review and assess planning proposals, rezoning reviews and the making of local environmental plans
- undertake state-led rezoning processes
- engage with council, community and stakeholders
- contribute to the review of planning policy and procedures
- perform legal functions including arranging formal agreements and site compatibility certifications
- prepare regional plans (for regional NSW only).

Regional Boundaries NSW
In the metropolitan area the teams help the Greater Sydney Commission carry out district plans through the review of planning proposals, rezoning reviews and the making of local environmental plans.
