Shaping the Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy

Aerial view looking down on the growing Wollongong Health Precinct.

Wollongong is rapidly growing and changing, attracting public and private investment to increase housing supply and choice, deliver new employment opportunities, and improve public spaces, infrastructure, and services.

The emerging Wollongong Health Precinct plays an important role in contributing to this growth. The NSW Government has developed a place-based strategy to outline the future vision for the Wollongong Health Precinct and guide ongoing growth in the area.

Place-based strategies are focused on protecting and enhancing the unique values of a place as it grows and changes. Public engagement is fundamental to this process, to ensure development aligns with community values and aspirations.

Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy

The public exhibition period for the draft Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy is now open. Have your say until 5pm Wednesday 11 June 2025.

The NSW Government, in close consultation with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, NSW Health, Transport for NSW and Wollongong City Council, has developed the draft strategy to guide the future of the Wollongong Health Precinct, located west of the Wollongong CBD.

The draft strategy considers:

  • public spaces and transport to support amenity and movement between key areas
  • public safety and access within and around the precinct – including links with the train station and the central business district
  • opportunities for affordable housing for future residents and key workers.

Shaping the Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy

The Shaping Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy (PDF, 6.5 MB) discussion paper was an important early step in shaping the future of the Wollongong Health Precinct.

The discussion paper was developed by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in collaboration with NSW Health, Transport for NSW, and Wollongong City Council to start a conversation with community and stakeholders about how the precinct might change over time.

From December 2023 to February 2024 we sought community and stakeholder feedback on the discussion paper. During this time the NSW Government held information sessions for the community and landowners where the project team was available to answer questions about the project and share information regarding its development.

For a summary of the feedback we received view the Engagement Outcomes Report (PDF, 1.7 MB).
